Dean Kalbfleisch and his daughter Danielle at the Super Bowl

Dean Kalbleisch, Dryden '73, keeps making the news. He was at the Super Bowl with his daughter Danielle, traveling all the way from Alaska to get there. Here's how that happened according to Dean himself:

I've been putting my name into the hat with the NFL for several years now for one pair of the 500 pair of tickets they make available for the general public to 'purchase' from them direct at face value. It's a random drawing that you have to send a registered letter to the NFL requesting your name to be put in for the drawing. I've cut and pasted the NFL website that tells you about. http://www.nfl.com/help/faq.

Anyway, it wasn't until I got my notification last October that I had 'won' a pair of these tickets did I find out that the tickets were twice a much as they were when I started putting my name in. At $800 apiece I almost said forget it. I talked to my daughter to see if she would want to go and she said yes so I decided it would be her college graduation gift. Fortunately, I have a friend that let me use his vacation condo in Orlando while we were down there, so I saved big on four nights of hotels while there. Helped to justify the price of the game tickets. Had to get a hotel for only one night in Lakeland, just outside of Tampa. We drove by the Tigers spring training camp before we left Lakeland for the game.

Being at the game was awesome. Especially, since it turned out to be such a great game. The winning touchdown was caught down below our end of the field. Although I was bummed that it cost the Cardinals the game, it still was a great catch. You should of seen the look on all of the Steelers fans faces, which was 98% of the fans where we were sitting, when the Cardinals took the lead earlier. I'd do it again, it was a blast and one of those once in a lifetime things to do.
